Paul Nebrasky was in pain.
Less than 24 hours after undergoing back surgery at a downstate hospital in July, this new resident of Warwick, NY, didn't know where to turn for help.
Luckily, a friend knew just the place -- St. Anthony Community Hospital, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth).
"I couldn't urinate and my doctor wanted me treated immediately, not drive an hour-and-a-half to a hospital or urgent care," said Nebrasky, owner of Nebrasky Plumbing, Heating & Cooling in Monroe, NY. "St. Anthony was just four minutes from my house and as soon as I got there, I've never had better care in my 56 years of life."
Upon arrival, Nebrasky was immediately greeted at the Emergency Department entrance by a compassionate and dedicated medical team ready to assist with care. Twenty minutes later, he was resting comfortably and pain-free. His urination problem was quickly alleviated and he was ready to go home.
"I was scared and nervous, but each person was nicer than the next and knew how to take care of me, put me at ease," said Nebrasky. "With a place like St. Anthony so close to home, there's no reason to go to New York City because they provide world-class care with a small-town feel. They have a new fan with me."
Nebrasky has since returned to work, feels "fantastic" and is continuing his philanthropic work in the community while also hoping to return to his favorite hobby—fishing.
WMCHealth has launched the ED30 Pledge, which promises that when patients visit the St. Anthony Community Hospital Emergency Department, they will be seen by a provider within 30 minutes of completing registration.
"This is why we're here, to serve our neighbors, family, and friends in the community and help patients who are sick or need immediate medical attention," said Anita Volpe, DNP, Vice President/Hospital Administrator of St. Anthony Community Hospital. "Mr. Nebrasky's outcome is the prime example of how a community hospital can deliver top-notch medical expertise right in your backyard."
