St. Anthony Community Hospital Participates in Global Big Latch On Event

WARWICK, N.Y., (August 8, 2016) -- St. Anthony Community Hospital  participated in the Global Big Latch On on August 6, 2016 on the Mount Alverno Center Lawn in Warwick, N.Y. Thirty moms and babies came out and joined breastfeeding women and their children across the world in their own communities during World Breastfeeding Week to take part in the synchronized breastfeeding event.

Participants received breastfeeding information from a Board Certified Lactation Consultant, enjoyed refreshments and were eligible to enter a raffle for door prizes donated by members of the Warwick community.

The Global Big Latch On takes place at registered locations around the world, where women gather together to breastfeed and offer support to each other. The Global Big Latch On is held annually over two days during World Breastfeeding Week (August 1– 7).

Breastfeeding contributes to the healthy growth and development of children, according to the World Health Organization. The World Health Organization recommends breastfeeding for the first six months of a baby's life and to continue to breastfeed for two years and as long thereafter according to a woman's individual preference.

The event is sponsored by St. Anthony Community Hospital, part of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network.
