The Intensive Care Unit / Cardiac Care Unit (ICU / CCU) treats and cares for patients with serious illnesses and injuries, including patients with multiple trauma, multiple system failure, respiratory failure, neurological complications, patients recovering from vascular surgery and cardiac ailments.
The St. Anthony ICU / CCU continues to rank number one in patient satisfaction in regional surveys. The unit is built around a centralized nursing station that allows a nurse to see each room from the station. The unit is equipped with a state-of-the-art monitoring system that includes ECG monitoring, oxygen saturation monitoring and non-invasive blood pressure monitoring. There is a telemetry system that allows eight additional beds to be monitored from anywhere in the building. With this feature, it is possible to follow the patient from department to department without "skipping a beat".
We are staffed with registered nurses whom are all certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support. There is a full time case manager and discharge planner, as well as a patient advocate, to help our patients with healthcare decisions. Pastoral care providers visit patients to help fulfill their spiritual needs.
We are located on the 3rd floor of the hospital. The unit offers very flexible visiting hours and provides a comfortable visitor waiting area. We look to the condition and overall situation of the individual patient when allowing visitors after 8:00 p.m., depending on the acuity of the patient and the activity of the department.
We request that one member of the family be designated as the person who calls for patient information and then passes it along to other family members. This is best for the patient and allows our nurses to spend more time with our patients.
