Method of Payment
Serving Southern Orange County, NY
and Sussex & Passaic Counties, NJ.
METHOD OF PAYMENT NOTES
Private Payers: When a resident has the resources to pay at a private pay level the daily rate is based on the level of care needed and the accommodations requested. There are three types of accommodations; semi-private room, private room and suite (living room and bedroom). All the rooms have large bathrooms. In order to be considered as a private payer, the resident must have sufficient resources to cover two years of residency. We will need copies of statements and proof of assets and income to complete the application process. Annually we will request an updated financial statement from the resident/resident’s representative in order to ascertain whether the resident will need to apply for Medicaid in that year. When the resident’s resources begin to decrease and it looks like there are only resources for a few months left at the private pay level, the resident/resident’s representative must apply for Medicaid. The resident will be responsible for payment on the private pay basis up to the Medicaid effective date. See below for additional Medicaid information.
Medicaid Recipients: Accommodations: semi private room-ASSISTED LIVING PROGRAM only. When someone is on Medicaid (the type of Medicaid for Assisted Living Programs is called “Community” Medicaid.), they still contribute towards their care here by paying the room and board piece of $1100.00 a month (2007 amount). In most cases, if their monthly income is less than $1,284.00 and they have less than $2,000.00 in assets, they may qualify for Supplemental Security Income which would be a separate government check raising the monthly income to $1,284.00 (2007 amount). Government regulations state that residents in the Assisted Living Program should have a monthly spending (or personal needs) allowance between $164.00 and $184.00 (2007 amount). This “personal allowance” would be used for a telephone bill, satellite TV service ($25.00 per MO), beauty parlor/barber shop services and/or anything the resident wants/needs. To apply for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) an appointment must be made for either a telephone interview by calling 1-800-772-1213 or in person interview at the Social Security Administration. If a resident makes over the $1,284.00, the Medicaid department may require they contribute the “excess” income towards their care here. Any contribution necessary would be determined by the Medicaid office and disclosed by the Medicaid caseworker to the resident/resident’s representative. The local Medicaid office is in Goshen, NY and the telephone number is (845)291-4000. If the resident was a NYS resident before moving to Mt. Alverno Center, the application for Medicaid must be made in the county the resident came from before moving into Mt. Alverno Center. There are currently no Medicaid beds available at Mt. Alverno Center. Medicaid applicants would be placed on a waiting list if a completed application is received.
