It’s early September, summer is drawing to a close, children are back in school and our lives seemingly become more routine. September also marks the end of one fiscal year and the beginning of a new one. As we close the current year, we have the chance to reflect on our past successes as well as look ahead to 2003 and beyond and the opportunities that lie ahead.
Where We’ve Been
This past year has been marked by progress – progress that was the result of your hard work, creativity and dedication. Our list of accomplishments is long – too long for this update. But, among last years highlights were the opening of a new Endoscopy and Physician Office suite in the Hospital. The new Endoscopy unit is equipped with the latest, state-of-the-art equipment and serves as an outpatient diagnostic suite. We also upgraded Radiology services to include a new Thyroid Probe and a 1.5 GE short bore MRI scanner. This new MRI allows for increased patient comfort during testing and superior image quality that enhances the diagnostic process. St. Anthony Community Hospital has become the first hospital within Orange and Rockland counties to offer - the Triage® BNP Test - a new cutting edge diagnostic technology recently approved by the FDA to help diagnosis heart failure. Schervier Pavilion implemented ACES (Advance, Cultivate, Educate, Sustain), a program designed to increase recruitment and retention of Certified Nurse Assistants. This program won national attention in an article that appeared in the Catholic Health World publication. It was a year that also brought us recognition for outstanding customer service and saw SACH voted best hospital in the region by the readers of Strauss Publications. To insure that SACH can continue to keep pace with the growing health care needs of our community, we kicked-off a master facility planning process you’ll hear more about in the coming months.
I want to thank all of you – staff, physicians and volunteers – for our success – Thank you for a great 2002.
Where We Are Going
Looking ahead it is clear that these are exciting times for the Warwick Health Care Campus and Bon Secours. As busy as last year was, I expect the pace will accelerate even more in the coming months as we move forward on a number of significant initiatives. These initiatives are designed to improve our ability to support the health needs of our community, and advance our vision as premier health care providers in the region. I will continue to keep you informed as these plans develop.
This coming year our direction is clear. We must continue on the path that we have begun - to grow our revenue, reduce expenses, contain cost and keep our total focus on quality care. It is a strategy that will permit us to move forward on a number of new initiatives while continuing to support those services already in place. If we work together, I have not doubt that we can achieve any goal we set and, it will be an exciting ride.
I know I speak for everyone in the Bon Secours Family when I say we are proud of your performance and thank you for living our Mission of providing ‘good help to those in need.’ Thank you for all you do!
